Shali Fortress in the Siwa Oasis, Egypt, is one of its most famous historical landmarks. The history of this ancient city dates back thousands of years before Christ. It houses the Temple of Amun, built by the ancient Egyptians. Alexander the Great visited this temple upon his arrival in Egypt to worship there and proclaim himself the son of Amun, knowing the significance of this deity to both the Egyptians and the Greeks. He even requested to be buried there, although it remains unknown whether this wish was ever fulfilled.
