Sinai, Egypt - Oct 07, 2024: The first train in Sinai in 50 years.

Egypt launched its first passenger train to enter Sinai in 50 years as part of the Arish-Taba corridor project, which aims to connect the governorate to the rest of Egypt. The Egyptian Ministry of Transport announced the commencement of the trial operation of the railway line from Al-Firdan to Bir Al-Abed, covering a distance of 100 kilometers, in the presence of Lieutenant General Kamel al-Wazir, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport and Industry, along with railway leaders. The corridor project starts from Al-Arish seaport to the Taba land crossing, linked by the Arish-Taba railway line, which extends from the Al-Firdan-Bir Al-Abed line, passing through the heavy industries area in Central Sinai. This route is expected to significantly enhance trade, industry, and mining activities along its path, connecting the Mediterranean Sea to the Gulf of Aqaba.
